Home sensors
Patio light, month by month
A motion sensor on my patio also measures light. Home Assistant has kept its hourly averages since March 8, 2025: 570 days, 19 months, and one slow swing from winter gloom to summer glare and back.

Winter vs late spring
Every hour, every day of the year
One column per calendar day, January to December, midnight at the top. Days recorded in both 2025 and 2026 (March 8 to September 28) average the two years. The bright band thickens toward June as the days lengthen, then thins toward December. From spring to early autumn the brightest hours come mid-afternoon; in winter only a faint band shows around noon.
Hours are summer time (PDT) all year: winter days are shifted an hour later, so the pattern doesn't step at the daylight-saving changes.
Hours are local clock time, so the whole pattern steps by an hour at each daylight-saving change.
Through the year
January to December. March through September were recorded in both 2025 and 2026, so those months average the two years.
Brightest hour and darkest point use summer time (PDT) all year: winter hours are shifted an hour later, so the lines don't jump at the daylight-saving changes.
Brightest hour and darkest point use local clock time, so the lines jump an hour where daylight saving starts and ends.
An average day, each month
Each panel averages every day of that month hour by hour, all on the same scale (gridlines at 1,000 and 2,000 lx). Winter light is a small midday bump. By May the afternoon peak has taken over.
